To date, the LÜDERITZ SPEED CHALLENGE has produced an unbelievable 12 World and 75 National Windsurfing and Kite Surfing speed records! This now infamous annual event takes place in LÜDERITZ (southern Namibia) in the middle of the Namib Desert. Founder & organiser of the event and the first person ever to achieve 50 & 55knots, Sébastien Cattelan (France), is the brainchild behind the specially made *very fast* channel which now attracts the best Kite surfers and Windsurfers in the world. The 2015 event will start on the 5th October and will continue until the 15th of November.

This inspiring artificial 1km long channel is located in the natural Lüderitz Second Lagoon located just a few kilometers from Lüderitz town in the middle of the Namib Desert. The 2015 event has attracted 40 top riders from 14 different Nationalities and each will attempt to break National & World Records. At the very least, many PBs will be beaten during these 6 weeks!

The current world speed record holder in Windsurfing, Antoine Albeau (France) achieved an astonishingly fast 52.05 knots/96.4 kph average speed over the official 500m run at the 2012 event. Antoine will once again do his best to keep his world title and push the limits even further. This will not be easy when facing the other highly accomplished windsurfers!

Italian Record holder Patrik Diethelm, winner of the 2014 event, came just within .9 knots of the world record. Anders Bringdal (Swedish Record holder), a legend in the Windsurfing community, is another strong contender – Anders is currently second fastest in the world with 51.45 knots.

Ruacana Eha Lodge

Ruacana Eha Lodge is a natural gateway to the wonders of the Kaokoveld, the Etosha National Park, the Epupa Falls and the vibrant African culture of the Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto regions in northern Namibia. It is a glittering oasis in the rugged landscapes of northern Namibia that offers relaxation, conferencing and a rare opportunity to come face-to-face with forgotten Africa. The word “eha” describes a piece of jewellery worn by the Himba, but it also means “home”. Few people have explored the Kaokoveld, yet all who have seen it, talk of its amazing beauty. Here, one can meet one of the few remaining semi-nomadic tribes, the Himbas. One can also discover the marvellous ways in which nature has adapted to the harsh desert and semi-desert environments.
The landscapes of Kaokoveld and Kunene seem so much larger than any other. Vast grass plains and dense savannas are punctuated by huge mountains and rolling hills. But the most prominent feature of this area is the tranquil silence.

The lodge has 21 rooms of which one is a family unit and the rest twin rooms. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities and television. Other facilities at the lodge are a restaurant, swimming pool, lounge bar, conference room, gym, and squash court. There is also a landing strip at Ruacana.

The following activities are offered:

Bagatelle Kalahari Game Reserve

Bagatelle - this French word refers to something small, of little consequence, not very important!
The lodge lies on the edge of the Southern Kalahari in the mixed tree and shrub Savanna.

The ranch is characterized by huge red sands dunes running parallel, and in a northwesterly to southeasterly direction. The valleys in between the parallel dunes are commonly known as ‘streets’. The design and décor, materials and furnishings, gardens and natural settings, all combine to ensure our guests live their dream of an African Safari.

A rambling old farmhouse was extensively altered, upgraded and renovated to not only serve as a residence, but also as the main nerve center of the Lodge.
An entrance hall leads to the reception, lounge, dining room, bar & cellar, library and office. There is a swimming pool and recreation area with a pool table and hammock. An open-air-lapa for outdoor meals captures the atmosphere of an African Safari.
Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch

Two styles of chalets are provided, both have the same standard of luxury and finished quality. Four chalets, constructed of wood and on stilts are built on top of a Kalahari sand dune, with unsurpassed views to the Southwest.
The other six chalets are built in the street or valley between the dunes. These chalets are built of ‘hay bales’ with walls 600mm thick, the insulation and atmosphere are equally effective and tranquil.

Morning Scenic Drive - A game drive in the reserve with a variety of game such as giraffe, kudu, zebra, oryx, blue wildebeest and eland. The reserve has some of the highest dunes in this region with views over the pan, characteristic of the Kalahari.
