LÜDERITZ SPEED CHALLENGE

To date, the LÜDERITZ SPEED CHALLENGE has produced an unbelievable 12 World and 75 National Windsurfing and Kite Surfing speed records! This now infamous annual event takes place in LÜDERITZ (southern Namibia) in the middle of the Namib Desert. Founder & organiser of the event and the first person ever to achieve 50 & 55knots, Sébastien Cattelan (France), is the brainchild behind the specially made *very fast* channel which now attracts the best Kite surfers and Windsurfers in the world. The 2015 event will start on the 5th October and will continue until the 15th of November.

This inspiring artificial 1km long channel is located in the natural Lüderitz Second Lagoon located just a few kilometers from Lüderitz town in the middle of the Namib Desert. The 2015 event has attracted 40 top riders from 14 different Nationalities and each will attempt to break National & World Records. At the very least, many PBs will be beaten during these 6 weeks!

The current world speed record holder in Windsurfing, Antoine Albeau (France) achieved an astonishingly fast 52.05 knots/96.4 kph average speed over the official 500m run at the 2012 event. Antoine will once again do his best to keep his world title and push the limits even further. This will not be easy when facing the other highly accomplished windsurfers!

Italian Record holder Patrik Diethelm, winner of the 2014 event, came just within .9 knots of the world record. Anders Bringdal (Swedish Record holder), a legend in the Windsurfing community, is another strong contender – Anders is currently second fastest in the world with 51.45 knots.

Mahango Game Park

The Mahango Game Park (also known as the Mahango Game Reserve) is a protected area in Namibia within Bwabwata National Park. It is situated at the country’s eastern border with Botswana in the flood plains of the Okavango River basin, close to the Popa Falls on the river. The Caprivi Strip encloses the western part of the park. About two thirds of the bird species found in Namibia are located here as it includes both wetland and tropical terrestrial species of birds.

  

Coast
Swakopmund & Walvis Bay both possess a resort town atmosphere attracting both tourists and locals, offering plenty of opportunities to play in the surrounding dunes and ocean. With miles upon miles of sandy beaches to explore, excellent fishing, fantastic water sport opportunities and plenty of sand dunes to climb.

 

Erongo Region
The eastern region, of the Erongo Region of Namibia, being of a semi arid landscape, has lent itself perfectly to become the farming hub of the region. The areas around the Karibib, Omaruru and Okombahe/Uis villages are well situated to combine communal farming and commercial farming.

Lüderitz is a harbour town in southwest Namibia,lying on one of the least hospitable coasts in Africa.It is a port developed around Robert Harbour and Shark Island.The town is known for its colonial architecture, including some Art Nouveau work, and for wildlife including seals, penguins, flamingos and ostriches.

Luderitz-Exploring Namibia's Historic Diamond Town

The small town of Luderitz is located in the South of Namibia and if you are lucky enough to have some free time on your holiday, then you should definitely go on a tour of it and its surrounds. From quaint old German-style architecture, to beautiful wide-open skies and crystal clear seas with white beaches, Luderitz is a small town with a lot to see.

Arriving
The first great thing about Luderitz is that it has its own airport. Flights go to Luderitz from Windhoek once a day, and getting a ticket is usually not a problem.
One can also drive from Windhoek to Luderitz. It's a straight shot along the B4 and will take you about 6-7 hours to do.

Take your time
Luderitz exists as a town largely thanks to the diamond industry in Namibia, and to this day diamonds continue to be an important part of the town's economy. But today we will concern ourselves with the past and of particular interest is the unique architecture of Luderitz. Colourful buildings built during the time of German occupation line the streets, and businesses more than a hundred years old can be found on some of the streets.

The town also has several historical sites, which are worth visiting. There is a wealth of information on the town’s history and you can find this information at any tourist centre or hotel in Luderitz.
