Goibib Mountain Lodge 

Goibib Mountain Lodge is a tranquil hideaway in the heart of the Great Karas Mountains in Southern Namibia easily accessed via the main B1 tar road, 48 km North of Grunau.

     

Goibib is an ideal stopover or as a base from which to explore the Fish River Canyon, Quiver Tree Forest, Giant’s Playground, Brukaros Volcanic Crater and Ai-Ais Hot Springs with absolute serenity. The main building boasts reception area, Lounge, Bar and Dinning room which serve buffet-style meals.

Their accommodation comprises of eight (8) Standard spacious en-suite rooms, each furnished to the highest standards and fitted with the comforts of home, allowing Guests to relax and recuperate.

Each room has en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, television with local and satellite channels, mini-bar, built-in safe for valuables, coffee/tea station and wireless internet connection. Rooms are serviced daily. 

 

Seven (7) Campsites: All campsite are leveled with normal soil, fireplace with grid, no electricity points available, partial shade, ablution block with showers hot & cold water, accessible by all types of vehicle, Overlander buses, suitable for Caravans, no pets allowed, firewood available for sale. we are more than happy to assist set up your camp for your comfort.

The Lodge facilities include a swimming pool, bar, Lodge library and credit card facilities (Visa or Master). Complimentary on-site car-parking is available for all guests.

Activities 

A range of activities are offered to our guests and we are always happy to share our experiences with them.

 

Nature Drives: a 2 hour drive on the farm with the intention to find and view our local game.

They offer Morning Drives, Afternoon Drives and Night Drives.

There are also the Hiking Trails, The Early Bird hike, Day River and Mountain Adventure.

Western Caprivi in Namibia

Namibia's wild and seldom visited Nkasa Rupara (formerly Mamili) National Park is a watery wonderland of wildlife rich islands, river channels and wetlands. In many ways the park mirrors Botswana's Okavango Delta.Wild is the best word to describe this park, there's nothing fancy about, no luxurious campsites or guided tours, you're on your own, driving on a series of unmarked 4x4 trails. Nkasa Rupara holds the distinction of being the largest wetland area with conservation status in Namibia.

The focal points of the 320km² national park are Nkasa and Lupala, two large islands in the Kwando / Linyati river. During the dry season the islands can be reached by road but after the rains 80% of the area becomes flooded, cutting them off from the mainland. The good news is that it remains a sanctuary for birds, with more species of birds recorded here than anywhere else in Namibia.

In addition to large herds of elephants and buffalo, lion, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, impala, red lechwe, reedbuck and the elusive sitatunga can be seen.

The splendid Nkasa Lupala Lodge borders the park to the north - and as the are is unfenced much of the wildlife from the park wanders through the property. Nakasa Lupala lodge also has exclusive rights to offer game drives in the park as well as game viewing from a boat on the Linyanti (a very exclusive experience) - so those wanting a little more than a self drive experience in the park should consider spending time at the lodge.

Unique in Africa

Etosha National Park is unique in Africa. The park’s main characteristic is a salt pan so large it can be seen from space. Yet there is abundant wildlife that congregates around the waterholes, giving you almost guaranteed game sightings. At the same time Etosha National Park is one of the most accessible game reserves in Namibia and Southern Africa.

The park is malaria free, accessible in a regular sedan car and the rest camps provide a range of accommodation as well as restaurants, viewing decks, shops and petrol stations. Luxurious camps in Etosha’s remote areas have now added top end accommodation to the park’s offerings.

 Landscape and Vegetation

 
Namibia is a very diverse country with an array of habitats and vegetation. It is also one of the few countries where animals still roam freely mostly unrestricted by human influence. The country has a great mix of desert, semi- desert and savannahs. As you travel further north in Namibia towards Etosha National Park, you will find a place that offers visitors a complete contrast of wide open grasslands, a massive pan that covers 4731km² and large camel thorn trees mixed with Mopani trees. This diverse vegetation accounts for the abundance of wildlife that thrives in the park.

Accommodation

 

The various accommodation options in Etosha National Park are well equipped with restaurants, shops, curios, swimming pools and petrol stations. The three main camps (Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni) offer various types of accommodation from camping to chalets overlooking floodlit waterholes. Situated deeper in the park are the more exclusive camps (Dolomite and Onkoshi) that provide a safari experience for discerning travelers.

About the Park

 
During winter the Etosha Pan is bone dry. This endless white expanse is an unlikely venue for a wildlife sanctuary. The park is a wasteland of white dust which comes from the clay in the pan. Bushes along the road turn white as vehicles throw up dust and visitors who leave the park usually have a dusty aura around them! This is also the time when most of the visitors come to the park as the climate is mild and the wildlife concentrates itself at the waterholes.  Yet the surrounding areas overflow with springbok and zebra.

The abundance of game in Etosha National Park is somewhat unexpected, showcasing some of the most common and rarest wildlife species. The areas with thicker vegetation are home to elephant (some of the largest in Africa due to the vitamins and nutrients found in the ground).

Many keen photographers visit the park looking to enhance their skills and photo- library.  In winter, the waterholes offer a unique opportunity to sit and wait for your subjects to come to you. The waterholes that surround the camps ensure that you are never left without something to photograph.

RHINO POACHING

The final figure for the total number of rhinos poached in S A during 2012 is 668. The previous year’s figure was 452. A simple arithmetic calculation provides a stunning statistic: there was a year-on-year increase of 47.8%!!!!!

If this trend continues we can expect the number of rhinos to be poached in 2013 to be around the 987 mark !
The head of Sanparks has issued a statement that the number of rhinos poached in Kruger in 2012 is still less than the number of young born. What about the number of rhinos that died naturally ?

Are we going to wait until there is negative growth before we make this priority number ONE in conservation circles? I believe that more rangers are being employed and that sniffer dogs will be used at entrance gates. This is great news but we need to guard against fostering the impression that we have a complacent attitude. I often wonder for how much longer our guides will be able to show Rhinos to our tourists.
