A Natural Place to Stay

There is a special wilderness area, encircled by the Erongo Mountains, where the desert, mountain, and bushveld ecosystems combine. Here, in a secluded valley, you will find the Erongo Wilderness Lodge in a dramatic setting of granite boulders and breathtaking views.

Raised wooden walkways and natural stone steps connect the chalets to the main area of the Erongo Wilderness Lodge, where the restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and sundowner deck invite you to relax and fully unwind.

The open-plan lounge and restaurant overlooks a floodlit waterhole, and is warmed by a central fireplace in the winter.

Nature provides the compelling reasons for visiting this unique environment at the Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Many rare, endemic, and special species of animal, bird, and plant life thrive here, making this one of Namibia’s most diverse and wildlife-rich areas. This wealth of natural and cultural history can be enjoyed by joining a guided nature drive, visiting one of the Bushman rock art sites, or walking among the mountains with one of our knowledgeable guides. Or make the experience a more personal one by simply exploring on your own, or just soaking up the atmosphere from the private deck of your tent.

!Uris Safari Lodge - A discovery not to be missed

!Uris Safari Lodge is located 20 kilometres west of the town of Tsumeb - a legacy of being a mineral fascination...
Surrounded by the ancient Lake Otjikoto and the famous wildlife conservation area, Etosha National Park, !Uris Safari Lodge also attracts tourists en-route to the Kunene-, Kaokoland . For visitors with an interest in gemstones and minerals !Uris Safari Lodge borders a number of historic German and Artesian mines namely Alt Bobos, Karavatu, Omeg II and Uris. They resemble trails "in the footsteps of the diggers" who, over one hundred and twenty years ago spent their days in the relentless Namibian sunshine exploring the possibilities of mining precious minerals to satisfy the needs of Europe. As one drives through this raw and unspoiled land one can see the remains of stripped mine headgear and other remnants relating to the old mining operations on lime rock and dolomite formations, established in days gone by. Modern day Bushmen will greet you from their homes, inquisitive of intruders in their quiet lives.

As evident in the Tsumeb history and tribal background, Uris is a Heikom/Bushmen word, meaning, "head lice" and with the addition of the "!" refers to a small white hill containing metal.

Explore Africa from all angles

Just a 10-minute-drive away from the airport and yet the noisy planes are out of earshot: our 60 km² nature reserve offers 100 percent pure Africa.

Game such as rhino, giraffe, oryx, springbuck and kudu – and last but not least – our heraldic animal, the red hartebeest, roam the hilly bush savannah with its dry river beds and small dams.

Accommodation
The bungalows of the lodge nestle under tall trees on the banks of a dry river (Seeis River). The thick walls of the main house built from self-quarried quartz blocks are reminiscent of the pioneering times of farming more than 100 years ago. Nowadays it houses a restaurant and a bar.
